Irresistible Holiness

"You shall be holy, for I am holy." -- I Peter 1:16

The word holiness has picked up some baggage most people don't find particularly desirable.  We might picture someone who is holy as joyless, uptight, and rigid.

But here's what C. S. Lewis had to say: "How little people know who think that holiness is dull.  When one meets the real thing . . . it is irresistible."

Jesus was the real thing.  He was perfectly holy and overflowing with joy.  When we love Him and obey Him, we'll be filled with joy, too.  We'll be free from the weight and burden of sin and able to obey the Lord.

Sin will strip and rob you of everything truly beautiful and desirable.  If you're a child of God, you were redeemed to enjoy the sweet fruit of holiness; to walk in oneness with your heavenly Father; to relish His presence; to rejoice in His mercy.  You were redeemed to know the joy of having clean hands, a pure heart, and a clear conscience; and, one day, to stand before Him unashamed.  Why settle for anything less?

Thank you for this devotion-all thought this morning. I transferred most of it to my spiritual walk journal. The Lord used the last paragraph especially to bless me today.
