An Afternoon in Gettysburg

Yesterday morning dawned so beautiful and bright that I announced to M. that I wanted to take a long, exciting drive somewhere that afternoon.  After church, lunch and a tiny nap, I awoke with this epiphany: Gettysburg!  And so our course was set.

We drove the hour to the battlefields and what a perfect day for it.  The trees, all through the military park, were dressed in hues of sherbert: lime green, raspberry, pale pink and creamy white.  And the fields were covered with yellow wildflowers that remind me of mustard.  We drove this way and that - admiring different monuments and touring a huge one erected in 1910 for the Pennsylvania infantries.  There was a great view from the second story - accessed by climbing cool, dark, dizzying, marble steps inside the heart of the structure.  The view was worth the dizziness.

And, to top off the glorious, spring day?  A cone of raspberry-vanilla twist from York Street Treat (chocolate for M., of course).  My ice cream looked just like the trees.
