Tea & Thrifting
Yesterday for my sister's birthday we enjoyed our annual tradition of an afternoon of tea and thrifting. We usually have lunch at our favorite spot - a tiny little tea room/bakery that serves delicious soups, sandwiches, salads and desserts. Two hours slipped quickly by as we enjoyed our lunch and caught up with one another's lives.
* Turkey, Bacon & Artichoke Melt (turkey breast with bacon, artichoke hearts, baby spinach, sun-dried tomato dressing and melted Swiss on mulitgrain)
* Black Forest Granny Melt (Black Forest ham with Granny Smith apple slices and mild cheddar cheese on multigrain)
* Apple Slaw
* Gourmet Multi-Colored Potato Chips
* Orange-Glazed Scone
* Toasted Coconut Brownie
* Two small pots of tea - Coconut Black Tea with our sandwiches and Darjeeling with dessert
Then to our favorite thrifting spot - a little hole-in-the-wall that's full of inexpensive treasures to uncover with a little digging. Our finds included:
- a 1956 child's edition of Ben Hur with lovely artwork
- a little feathered chicken with a plastic head and feet attached to a floral pick (My sister laughed at my intense intrigue over this chicken! I brought him home and popped him into the pot of geraniums on the windowsill. He looks perfectly at home in our farmhouse kitchen.)
- a copy of Parties for Children by Marguerite Kohl and Frederica Young (1966)
- an old Christmas issue of Martha Stewart Living for me and an Easter issue for her
- two small envelopes of ribbon for our upcoming Valentine-making session - some pink satin and red gingham
- a copy of Entertaining Six or Eight by the Culinary Arts Institute (1965)
- Wild Animal Lotto - a vintage matching game for children with gorgeous animal artwork - we decided to use it for an animal crafting project that Jen found for us to make at a future session of Sister Time
Happy Birthday, Sis, and thanks for another sweet memory -
