Awake With the Moon

As I grow older, I find myself awake more often at night.  I don't know what it is but sometimes around 1 a.m. I'll stir and find myself to be completely and totally awake.  I've learned that there's no point in lying there and trying to fight to go back to sleep.  My best bet is to find my book and creep down the stairs to read for an hour or two before I'm ready to enter Dreamland again.

And so it goes.  Tonight (or technically, this morning) upon entering the living room, a pool of moonlight on the floor caught my eye.  Looking out the window onto our fields, the moon - almost full - was shining faithfully.  I find the moon so comforting.  And even better, Orion the Hunter was perched confidently just to the left of Mr. Moon.

Sometimes I find the darkness threatening but not so when the celestial bodies are twinkling a friendly "Hello!" to me.  They faithfully shine from where God hung them, and I love to think about the fact that He's named each one.  I find a sense of unchangingness there.  And though the moon and stars will not last forever, they remind me of the One Who does.  At the end of all things, is the Beginning.

At this stage in my life, I too find myself wide awake in the middle of the night from time to time. I use this time to start praying for whoever God brings to mind. I think I get some of my best praying done in these quiet hours!
