A Book Review of The Housekeeper and the Professor

The Housekeeper and the Professor by Yoko Ogawa is a poignant story about a brilliant mathematics professor, the housekeeper hired to care for him and the housekeeper's young son.  What makes for an especially fascinating story are the intricacies of dealing with the professor's peculiar problem - that he has only 80 minutes of short-term memory until his mind "resets" itself.  Interwoven throughout are thought-provoking conversations in which the professor patiently teaches the housekeeper and her son the beauty, peace, and order he finds amidst the mathematical equations he has learned from  "God's notebook."  This book about the importance of relationship and living in the moment is told with elegance and honor.
