Thou shalt eat no leavened bread with it; seven days shalt thou eat unleavened bread therewith, even the bread of affliction; for thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt in haste: that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of thy life.
- Deuteronomy 16:3
Time and again, especially in the book of Exodus, God's people were reminded to keep, observe, and remember the day they were brought out of the slavery in Egypt. (See Exodus 12:14, 12:24, 12:42, 13:3, 13:9-10.)
How does keeping the Passover translate to me? I need to remember from where I came - the slavery of Egypt. As the Israelites were enslaved physically, so, too, was I enslaved spiritually - in bondage to sin. Looking back and remembering that from which I was delivered cultivates a heart of thankfulness and is an impetus to stay on the narrow path and keep walking away from Egypt and towards the Promised Land. ". . . that thou mayest remember the day when thou camest forth out of the land of Egypt all the days of they life."
