No Rain on Our Parade

The closest town to our farm is about three minutes up the road. The town's so tiny that if you blink, you'll miss it. Amazingly, it boasts two churches - one at one end, the other at the other end. The littlest of the two is our church. And since today was the 100th birthday of the town, it was decided to help celebrate by being in the parade. The story goes that the town owns a photograph of our church long, long ago with a tractor and a hay wagon going past. Someone thought it would be neat to duplicate the scene in the parade. As our family owns a tractor and a hay wagon, M. agreed to do the driving.

Perched on hay bales, a pile of us sang old hymns acapella while a couple of the teens passed out bags of tracts and treats. We sang, grinned and did a lot of waving. And though it didn't look anything like Macy's, we enjoyed ourselves and were glad that the called-for rain held off.

What a novel idea - a hymn sing, a hay ride and a parade - all at the same time.
