An Evening of Fish Painting?!

My sister's been wanting to try Fish Painting. Jenna first saw the idea a few years ago in an issue of Martha Stewart's Living and has been saving her rubber fish for the right moment. This week, her dream of Fish Painting came dream. She asked me over one evening to join her in the endeavor.

The project is super easy. You just paint the fish and press it onto whatever paper you want to use. We used brown kraft paper - you could try paper bags, old sewing patterns, etc. It just takes a little experimenting with getting the right thickness of paint (we used tubes of acrylic), how much paint you want on the fish, and your technique for getting the fish on the paper. (My 7 year-old nephew seemed to have the best technique - flip the fish over, slap it down and pull it off.) We also experimented with different colors - I preferred the dark brown; my 3 year-old nephew did a stunning print in bright orange.

Besides fish painting, there was lots of sister talk, time for browsing through recent book sale finds, and a tour of the house to view her recent organizing projects and summer vignettes . . .

I'm thinking, Sis, that perhaps we've stumbled onto something which may have to become a regularly scheduled outing - Our Project Evening?
