We need not scorn recreative reading, but it is a sad mistake to confine our reading to fiction, as so many do. The best poetry and essays should be our familiar companions, we should exult in the great biographies and histories. Travel and science should open to us the world in which we live, and above all we should rejoice in the Bible and in books about the Bible.
-- Amos R. Wells, Peloubet's Select Notes on the International Sunday School Lessons, 1934
