A Book Review on Mrs. Mike: The Story of Katherine Mary Flannigan

Mrs. Mike by Benedict & Nancy Freedman was written in the late '40s and is based on the true life story of Katherine Mary Flannigan, a 16-year-old girl who marries a Canadian mountie.  Stationed in the far north of the Canadian wilds, Mrs. Mike meets love, adventure, and sorrow head-on.  Besides descriptions of the many rich characters that are part of the lives of Katherine and Mike, the book is full of fascinating information about the beauty, animals and intensity of the North.  It's a bittersweet tale that reminds one that there is little else we need in life if we have love.

I've read that book many times. It was a favorite in my youth!

Hi Julie...
Thanks for reminding me of a book I read in high school at the suggestion of the school librarian. I will enjoy the hunt for another copy to re-read! Speaking of "the hunt" --- since you told me about the state-by-state book sale website, I've been to two in neighboring counties that I didn't know about before... thanks for the tip!
Are you having much Springtime yet?

Thanks, ladies, for your comments! Yes, Lori - spring has sprung here. The farm is wearing its spring finery and looking lovely. The trees are blossoming, my lilacs are forming and my husband picked the first of the asparagus last evening. Oh, happy day!

Lilacs!! Growing up in Missouri we had all my favorites -- peonies, lilacs, daffodils, iris, forsythia, etc. ALL of which do not grow in zone 9 coastal Texas... I can't wait to begin planting all my own beauties once again when we go back in a year.
I am envious of your giant bouquets of lilacs {smile} !!
