Happy Fasnacht Day!

My parents-in-law borrowed our kitchen last night and made 30 dozen fasnachts for family and friends.  Words fail to describe what's it like to be woken up by the scent of fresh donuts frying.  And the taste of a warm fasnacht dipped in sugar - oh, my.  Truly a labor of love . . .

Eli was up at about 4 and did a small photo shoot of the making.  (He also ate a fasnacht or two in the process!)

I told my kids that it was the best day of the year. A table full of fastnachts and the aroma - no better way to wake up!

How many did you make? Your mom is wondering who's going to take over the tradition. (I vote you.) I told her that I might start making for our family if she quits - but there's no way I'm making 30 dozen!!

I only made 5 1/2 dozen. Gave 3 1/2 away. I think the commute is too far for me to be the one to take over. It looks like it will be up to a grandchild to continue the tradition.
