A Book Review of Shepherds Abiding
Every year about this time, Shepherds Abiding by Jan Karon gets pulled off the shelf for a
quick seasonal re-read. Falling
near the middle of the Mitford series of books, Shepherds Abiding encompasses one holiday season in the life of
Father Tim, the now-retired Episcopal preacher in a small town. The story line focuses on the Christmas
gift he’s preparing for his wife – an old, neglected nativity scene that needs
much tender, loving care – and the lessons of faith that he learns during the
process. Amidst his own story are
woven the threads of other lives that Father Tim touches as various characters
live out their own faith journeys.
A sweet read that will help to prepare your heart for this most blessed
of seasons -
