A Book Review of The Birds' Christmas Carol

Written in 1887, The Birds’ Christmas Carol by Kate Douglas Wiggins is a short Christmas story set in the Victorian period.  It’s the tale of a little invalid girl named Carol Bird who delights in sharing a birthday with the Christ child.  Carol’s illness doesn’t keep her from blessing others - she takes great joy in bringing great joy to others.  The Birds’ Christmas Carol is the story of how this little girl shares her birthday with the Ruggleses, a poor family of 9 children that live in a carriage house behind her home.  The description of the Birds’ Nest (Carol’s peaceful and beautiful room) and the details of the Christmas festivities planned for the children are my favorite parts of this sweet book.  Perfect to re-read each Christmas for a reminder that it really is more blessed to give than receive.
