Eggs for Rolling

This evening the boys painted eggs in preparation for the egg-rolling contest this weekend. The five of us take turns racing across the floor on our hands and kness pushing our eggs with our noses - first one to the end of the living room is the winner. Ben and Eli did a practice run - E. lamented that he did as terrible as he usually does. I consoled him with the fact that he usually beats me!

We enjoy using crayon on the eggs and then dye in vinegar, foodcoloring solution. The wax from the crayon will remain. The egg in the photo looks just beautiful, almost like an Ukranian dipped egg.

It sounds like you had a good time! We painted a few eggs on Wednesday.

I am really enjoying your blog. It always lifts my spirits before math.

Love,
Kylie

This egg turned out so pretty. I see that you used a q-tip but what did you dip it in, paint? I want to try these with my kids this year.
Thank You! And thank you for your ministry, I really enjoy reading your blog.

Ruth,

I told Eli about your technique, and he wants to try it - thanks!

Kylie,

Thanks as always for your comments - I'm glad to help you through math a bit!!

Linda,

We used a local brand of egg dye called Hinkle's - it comes in four little bottles of various colors which you just dip Q-tips into and apply to eggs. We also use food coloring with vinegar - take 1 tsp. of vinegar, drop enough food coloring in for desired shade (about 10-20 drops), mix and apply with Q-tips. Hope this helps! Thanks for writing!

Happy Easter to you all -

Hi Julie,
We tried it and everyone loved it. We always used dunk dyes in the past but not any more. The kids really loved it. Thanks for sharing this idea.
